The Elmont Chamber of Commerce and the Elmont School District on Friday are sponsoring the first Thomas A. Bennet Spaghetti Dinner.

The free dinner will honor local veterans and remember Bennet, who died in January. Bennet was the former commander of VFW Post 455 in Elmont.

The event will be at the Gotham Avenue School, 181 Gotham Ave. in Elmont, from 6 to 9 p.m. The elementary school has a garden named after Bennet.

Spaghetti, meatballs, lasagna, salad, dessert and other refreshments will be served. The event is open to the public but is primarily for veterans, organizers said.
