Discounts on unpaid Port Jeff tickets
Drivers with outstanding parking tickets from Port Jefferson village can catch a break: The village court is offering a 40 percent reduction on parking summonses issued between Jan. 1, 2004 and Feb. 15, 2011.
“We did this once in 2008 and it brought in a lot of revenue from tickets that weren’t being paid,” said senior justice court clerk Christine Wood.
She said the village has sent 5,000 letters to holders of the unpaid tickets.
The reduction is available until May 2. To qualify, drivers must plead guilty to the ticket and pay the fee via check, money order or credit card at the courthouse.
The village court can be contacted at 631-473-8287 or by email at cwood@portjeff.com.
