Discussion on Long Island school segregation
The Save-Our-Sons Network plans to host a two-evening
Keynote speaker Alan Singer, professor of secondary education at Hofstra University and author of the book “New York and Slavery: Complicity and Resistance,” is expected to evaluate the application of Brown v. Board of Education on Long Island.
The free event will be tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the Lakeview Public Library, 1120 Woodfield Rd., Rockville Centre. Seating at the library is limited, so early arrival is recommended.
Longtime Lakeview residents and activists Joyce Mcrae and Rener Reed — former president of the Lakeview NAACP — will recount on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. their struggle for integration in the Malverne Union Free School District. The district serves Lakeview, Malverne, West Hempstead, North Lynbrook, and portions of the villages of Lynbrook and Rockville Centre.
Lakeview, about 1.2 square miles, is a predominately black middle-class community of about 5,000 people.
