Division's Rosenthal: No-hitter with 16 Ks
Junior Taylor Rosenthal threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts and two walks for Division in an 11-0 win over Garden City Thursday in a Nassau Conference ABC-III softball game. Julie Weidler went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Alexis Alvino went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Division (3-0).
Commack 15, Brentwood 0: Sophomore Kristen Andrews threw a five-inning no-hitter with two strikeouts for Commack (5-1) in Suffolk League I. Andrews went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Nicole Deissler added a three-run double in the second inning. Clarke 4, Island Trees 3: Alyssa Colletti hit two home runs and drove in all four runs to lead Clarke (3-0) in Nassau Conference ABC-I. Sarah Cornell struck out nine in a three-hitter.
BASEBALL
Mepham 1, Carey 0: Brian Helft struck out five in 6 1/3 innings and Adam Pedersen had an RBI single in the top of the first inning for Mepham (2-1) in Nassau Conference AA-III.
Division 2, New Hyde Park 1: Anthony Semonella scattered five hits and struck out five for Division (3-2) in a Conference A-I/II crossover. Brett McBride's RBI single in the second inning gave the Blue Dragons a 2-0 lead.
Shoreham-Wading River 3, Mount Sinai 1: Nick Bottari hit a two-run homer in the seventh to win it for SWR (6-1) in Suffolk League VII. Dan DeVito struck out seven in six innings and allowed five hits in a no-decision for SWR.
BOYS LACROSSE
Calhoun 7, Mineola 6: Kyle McGinley scored the winning goal with 2:30 left in the fourth for Calhoun (1-6) in a non-conference game. Colin Bayer led Calhoun with two goals. South Side 7, Baldwin 6: Zach Scaduto scored with 2:55 left to give South Side (4-3) a 7-5 lead. Peter Clark assisted on Ryan Culley's goal with 7:18 left to give South Side a 6-5 lead in non-league. Longwood 19, Sachem North 18: Lindsey Eggers scored three goals, including the equalizer in the second overtime and the winner in sudden-death OT, to win it for Longwood (2-4) in Suffolk Division I. North Shore 14, Wantagh 13: Micaela Dussel scored the winner for North Shore (6-1) with 4:21 left in a non-conference game. Amanda Johansen led North Shore with six goals.
