Donate food, maybe win year of cupcakes

The farmers market in Kings Park will collect donations for a local food pantry on Sunday — and one lucky person could win a year’s supply of cupcakes.
The producers of the TLC show “DC Cupcakes” are donating the treats to be raffled on Sunday at the market. A portion of the raffle proceeds will be turned over to a food pantry run by St. Vincent de Paul at the Church of St. Joseph in Kings Park.
Vendors also plan to donate some of their food to the pantry, said farmers market co-founder Aly Elish-Swartz, a member of the Kings Park Civic Association. Such donations are made periodically by the vendors. They donated 25 to 30 pounds of food one recent weekend, she said.
The farmers market features 12 to 14 vendors each week selling farm-grown produce, seafood, wine, flowers and other products. Musical programs are offered some weeks.
In recent weeks, the market added booths selling fish and pasta, Elish-Swartz said.
“It’s really, really growing,” she said.
The market, in the municipal parking lot at Church Street and Route 25A, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Sunday through Nov. 20.
