The ABBA Leadership Center is looking for food donations to help
feed
hundreds of low-income families in and around Hempstead Village as part of its annual Thanksgiving event.
The nonprofit faith-based organization in Hempstead will distribute the food during its Thanksgiving event this coming Saturday
from noon to 4 p.m. at the Judea United Baptist Church, 83 Greenwich St.
“For years ABBA Leadership Center has been bringing food relief to hundreds of families during the Thanksgiving holidays, and each year that number has been on the increase,” the Rev. Reginald Benjamin of the center said in a statement. “This year is one of the most difficult; even the people who were supporters, and in times past donated to this ministry to help feed the less fortunate, are themselves in need.”
Food items needed include turkeys, turkey stuffing, rice, macaroni and cheese, cornbread mix, pies, cans of corn, mixed vegetables, fruit cocktail, sweet potato, mixed nuts, cranberry sauce and beans.
The deadline for donating food items or money is Wednesday
. Food can be dropped off at the church between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Donors are asked to call ahead before dropping off the items.
