Down to last strike, Astros rally for five runs in ninth
Pinch hitter Jed Lowrie hit a three-run homer off Huston Street with two outs in the top of the ninth to complete a five-run rally yesterday as the Astros stunned the Angels, 5-3. After retiring the first two batters and getting ahead of Preston Tucker 1-and-2, Street allowed a homer by Tucker to begin a stretch of five consecutive hits. C.J. Cron hit two homers for the Angels.
Rangers 12, A's 4: Adrian Beltre had two homers and five RBIs for host Texas.
Twins 7, White Sox 0: Torii Hunter's three-run homer and four RBIs led visiting Minnesota.
Orioles 8, Royals 2: Chris Davis hit his 42nd home run, Jonathan Schoop had two solo shots and Adam Jones homered and had four RBIs for host Baltimore.
Nationals 5, Marlins 0: Max Scherzer (12-11) allowed five hits and no walks in eight innings as visiting Washington ended its losing streak at five.
Dodgers 4, Diamondbacks 3: Zack Greinke (17-3, 1.61) pitched eight scoreless innings for visiting Los Angeles.
Giants 10, Padres 3: Mike Leake (10-8) pitched six innings and hit a three-run homer for host San Francisco. Stony Brook product Travis Jankowski hit his first home run for the Padres.
Cardinals 9, Reds 2: Tommy Pham and Matt Adams hit two-run homers for visiting St. Louis.
Phillies 7, Cubs 4: Ryan Howard homered and drove in three runs for host Philadelphia.
