Downed power lines close part of Route 106

Burning power lines created a traffic headache for motorists in East Meadow Monday afternoon.
The downed LIPA wires on Route 106 between Route 24 and Salisbury Park Drive halted traffic in both directions at about 4:30 p.m., the state Department of Transportation reported.
The section of Route 106 was expected to remain closed until about 8 p.m. Monday.
