Downtown Patchogue mostly clear

Overall, Main Street in downtown Patchogue Village was clear and mostly dry, save for the occasional splash of brown slush.
Many parking spaces on either side of the thoroughfare lined with restaurants and boutiques remained covered in snow or slush, but some vehicles parked regardless. Pedestrians walked cautiously on the sidewalks, which alternated between completely clear to frozen over with ice at least an inch thick.
Attorney Joel Furman said he thought the village "has done a great job" cleaning the roads, especially "considering the circumstances" of the historic blizzard. After getting rid of the ice from the sidewalks in front of his buildings, including his law practice, he had to return to the municipal parking lot he previously cleared to shovel out a dumpster that a plow covered with one of many snow piles, including some that stretched upward of 10 feet.
"You try to do everything yourself, but you still don’t have control," Furman, 78, of Patchogue, said.
