Driver arrested after truck hits VW and police cruiser
A Hicksville man lost control of his Isuzu truck and struck a Volkswagen and a Nassau police cruiser Saturday afternoon in Mineola, police said Sunday.
Police arrested Jorge E. Urias, 24, of Gardiners Ave., after his Isuzu struck the Volkswagen at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Westbury Avenue. As the Volkswagen spun onto a front lawn, Urias continued driving north until he hit the driver's side door of a Nassau police car, police said.
Urias, who was carrying a gravity knife, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and "multiple" traffic violations, Nassau police said. He is to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
The police officer in the squad car and the Volkswagen's driver were treated and released from local hospitals.
