Drying out, and a nice weekend ahead
After soaking rains throughout the metropolitan area in the past few days, a pleasant weekend is predicted for Long Islanders.
A mix of sun and clouds is expected for Saturday, with temperatures in the low 50s. It will also be slightly breezy, with west winds averaging about 15 mph.
Sunday should be the same, with less wind and more sunshine.
The dry weather will extend into next week as well, with sunny skies and mild temperatures.
Rivers in southeastern New York State and northern New Jersey will be cresting this weekend, continuing the flooding that has been taking place in the past 48 hours
The record high for KFRG (Farmingdale Airport) is 51 degrees, set in 2007. That could indeed be broken.
The record low is 19 degrees, set in 1998.
This day in weather history
1888 - A blizzard paralyzed southeastern New York State and western New England. The storm produced 58 inches of snow in Saratoga, and 50 inches in Middletown, Conn. The blizzard was followed by record cold temperatures, and the cold and snow claimed 400 lives. New York City received 20.9 inches of snow, while Albany reported 46.7 inches.
