The two presidential candidates prepared for the Hofstra debate at dueling Long Island Marriott hotels. They did find common ground on one point even before squaring off: Potatoes were on both of their menus.
At the Uniondale Marriott, Romney planned to have rotisserie chicken, with sides of spinach and baked potato, for dinner with his wife and their five sons. At the Melville Marriott, steak and potatoes were on the menu for Obama and the first lady.
It was unclear whether either party would receive rewards points.
