The Islip Town Board approved a resolution Tuesday to allow a Dunkin’ Donuts to open in Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Formerly occupied by a Friday’s restaurant, the retail space in the passenger terminal has been vacant for two years, town spokesman Parker Ince said.

The town was looking for a renter for part of the vacant space to “operate a coffee concession,” according to the resolution adopted by the board. New Dough Airport Services LLC submitted a proposal accepted by the Department of Aviation and Transportation and will now enter into a 20-year lease with the Town of Islip, paying rent to MacArthur Airport, Ince said.

The Dunkin’ Donuts will occupy about 1,000 square feet in the terminal. New Dough Airport Services will be charged an annual rent of $27.95 per square foot, in addition to a concession fee based on sales at the store.

Ince said town officials are excited about the prospect of creating more jobs in Islip as a result of the new Dunkin’ Donuts. But he did not have an estimate for the number of jobs that might be created.
