E. Norwich firehouse getting $1.6M in bonds
The East Norwich Firehouse will receive $1.6 million in tax-exempt bonds for an expansion of its Oyster Bay Road facility after Oyster Bay Town officialsTuesday approved the financing.
East Norwich Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is expected to construct a 6,400-square-foot addition to its firehouse that it said was necessary to store firefighting equipment and for administrative use. The department had petitioned the town to authorize issuance of the funds, which total $1,616,000.
A public hearing on the expansion at Tuesday’s town board meeting produced no comments.
“The town’s volunteer fire departments perform many invaluable services to their communities on a daily basis,” Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto said in a statement. “When the town board can help a fire department, in this case authorizing the issuance of bonds so the East Norwich Fire Department can undertake a needed building expansion, we are more than happy to do so.”
