Darren Sproles found a landing spot with the Eagles. Steve Smith and James Harrison are looking for new teams.

Sproles, a versatile running back-kick returner, will add more juice to Philadelphia's high-energy offense after being acquired from New Orleans for a fifth-round draft pick. And someone will grab Smith after the standout receiver was released by Carolina.

As for Harrison, the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year was cut by Cincinnati, where he spent only one season after being released by Pittsburgh.

Sproles, 30, figures to be a threat as a receiver, runner, returner and in pass protection against blitzers.

"Darren Sproles is an unbelievable offensive weapon," Eagles coach Chip Kelly said. "He can do it all: run, catch, plus he's a proven winner. And on top of that, he can bring all of those dynamic skills to the return game as well.''

Sproles had 71 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 220 yards and two scores in 2013.

On the third day of NFL free agency, the Bucs cut tackle Donald Penn Thursday and signed Anthony Collins to replace him. The Packers re-signed linebacker Mike Neal. The Jaguars signed defensive linemen Chris Clemons and Ziggy Hood and re-signed defensive end Jason Babin, whose 71/2 sacks led the team.

Smith has been the face of Carolina's franchise for a decade, but he turns 35 in May and would have cost the Panthers $7 million under this year's salary cap. The team still owes Smith $3 million.

Cincinnati no longer was the right place for Harrison, 35, who had a limited role there after he helped the Steelers win a pair of Super Bowls. Harrison played in 15 games, starting 10. He had two sacks and one interception.

Oakland gave a two-year deal to linebacker LaMarr Woodley, a former teammate of Harrison's in Pittsburgh.

In other moves:

The Super Bowl champion Seahawks and Tarvaris Jackson agreed to a one-year contract for him to back up quarterback Russell Wilson.

Guard Rodger Saffold's bizarre free-agent experience ended back in St. Louis. He re-signed with the Rams one day after he failed a physical, voiding a five-year, $42.5-million deal with the Raiders.

The Bills brought back tight end Scott Chandler and tight end Garrett Graham re-signed with the Texans. The Bears agreed to a one-year deal with wide receiver Domenik Hixon, a Giant from 2007-12.

Martin passes physical. Jonathan Martin is officially a member of the 49ers, and he's thrilled to have a fresh start to keep playing football.

Martin passed his physical to complete a trade that sent the tackle from the Dolphins to be reunited with Jim Harbaugh, his coach at Stanford.

"It's a blank slate for me. I'm looking forward to revitalizing my career, getting back to playing," said Martin, a victim of a bullying scandal that prompted him to leave the Dolphins in midseason.

"I want to do whatever I can to contribute to this offensive line. It's a great O-line already."
