East Hampton nixes Saturday meetings

The East Hampton Town board has decided to do away with Saturday meetings throughout the year due to low attendance, Supervisor William J. Wilkinson said.

The meetings were originally set up as work sessions for residents who live in the town only part of the year, or for those working who could not attend during the week, he said.

Wilkinson said new board that began its term last month decided to cancel the meetings because attendance was sparse.

Additionally, town clerk Fred Overton confirmed three additional work sessions were added to the board’s schedule this year. The meetings — scheduled for Feb. 28, July 31 and Oct. 30 — are to provide the board with work sessions before regular sessions.

There had not been work sessions scheduled before the regular meetings during those weeks, he said.

Overton said the additional dates were discussed at a work session earlier this month, and approved at the regular session that followed.
