East Meadow hosts Caribbean festival
Caribbean-Americans will get another chance to celebrate their heritage June 18 during the second annual Long Island Caribbean-American International Festival.
The free festival, organized by the Jamaica Cultural Alliance, will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater in Eisenhower Park.
The event will feature music, arts and crafts, food and displays from the various Caribbean Islands.
This year’s event will include Caribbean gospel with performers Shirley Willis, one of the founding members of the Grace Thrillers, Natalie Evans and Barrington Reid.
Also scheduled to perform are Supa P, Adlib Steel Orchestra, Angels Caribbean Band and reggae artists Mighty Diamonds and Frankie Paul. The Dream Castle Models will also be featured.
More than 10,000 people attended last year’s inaugural festival, County Executive Edward Mangano in a statement.
