Easter egg hunt do-over works in Huntington

The Town of Huntington learned a few lessons last year after holding its first Easter egg hunt in 30 years, and it applied them on Wednesday.

This year’s hunt, organized by Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, was broken up into sections at Heckscher Park in Huntington. Each section was restricted to a different age group: The tennis courts were reserved for 1- to 3-year-olds, one section of the lawn was reserved for 4- to 6-year-olds, and a third section was set up for 7- and 8-year-olds.

Parents were required to register their children ahead of time, and they were assigned a time slot to come to the park. Last year, the entire event was held at one time for all comers, and some kids went home without eggs.

“It went very well," Cuthbertson said of Wednesday's event. "Very well-organized, and I think that all who participated enjoyed it.”

Despite cool weather and gray skies, hundreds turned out.
