Economic forum scheduled for East End

The newly formed Long Island Regional Economic Development Council will hold a separate public forum on the East End next week.

The forum was proposed by state Assemb. Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I-Sag Harbor) and Sen. Kenneth P. LaValle (R-Port Jefferson), who told Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration, which developed the forums, that the East End has a set of unique issues.

“The East End is unique,” LaValle said in a statement, “and I am gratified that the governor recognizes the importance of the region as an economic engine.”

Kevin Law, chief executive of the Long Island Association, and Hofstra University president Stuart Rabinowitz head the 22-member economic development council for Long Island, which is one of 10 statewide established by Cuomo.

The East End forum will take place Oct. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Suffolk County Community College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center in downtown Riverhead.
