Editorial: Long Island didn't bury McCain

46 -- That's the percentage of Long Island votes Sen. John McCain received in the 2008 presidential election. At first glance that could be the reason he joked last week that the inclusion of the Island in the United States is sometimes regrettable. A harder look, though, shows he did far better here than in New York State as a whole, where he captured only 36 percent. If he's looking for a place to aim his legendary grumpiness, he could consider the Bronx, where he grabbed 11 percent of the votes to Barack Obama's 89 percent.
