Greenport Village residents will vote next month to select two trustees for the village board, the first election for a village position on the East End this year.

Three candidates, including incumbent Mary Bess Phillips, filed by the Wednesday deadline to run in the March 19 contest. Most village elections are held either in March or June.

The other candidates in Greenport are Julia Robins, a member of the village planning board, and William Swiskey, a former trustee and regular critic of village government.

Swiskey, who previously ran the village utilities department, was appointed to the board in 2008 but lost his seat in a 2009 election.
