NY GOP chair blames GOP losses on 'national tide'
Even as Democrats swept all three statewide races Tuesday night, New York State Republican Chairman Ed Cox argued that the party fielded one of its best tickets in recent history.
In a statement, a defiant Cox blamed the GOP losses across the state, including in races for the governor’s mansion, state attorney general and comptroller’s offices, to the national political environment. He added that midterm elections are historically difficult for the party holding the presidency.
"Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats have been put on notice,” Cox said. “They were able to hide behind the national tide this cycle, but that will not be the case forever. They will have to answer for their record of New York leading the nation in outmigration as the most taxed, least affordable, least free state in America.”
The GOP chairman said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate who lost to Gov. Kathy Hochul, “ran a flawless, issues-based campaign” while adding that “a political star was born” in the party’s attorney general candidate, Saritha Komatireddy, who was defeated by Democrat incumbent Letitia James.
Meanwhile, Cox said Republican Joseph Hernandez, who lost to Democrat incumbent Tom DiNapoli in the race for state comptroller, “shed light on Albany Democrats' squandering of taxpayer dollars.”
