Elmont's Aguilo fans 21 in no-hitter

The Elmont baseball coaches were scrambling for recording devices during the game. They wanted desperately to get footage of the feat because, told in words alone, it was simply hard to believe.
Daniel Aguilo, in his first no-hitter, struck out 21 (tying the state record for a seven-inning game) and didn't allow a ball to be put in play as Elmont defeated Hempstead, 12-0, Wednesday in a Countywide Conference game.
"I just tried to stay calm and keep going," said Aguilo, whose previous high was 13 strikeouts. "My fastball was overpowering them and my off-speed was working really well."
The sophomore struck out the first 13 batters before walking one, then fanned seven straight. He walked a batter with two outs in the seventh but ended it on a strikeout for Elmont (6-2).
"When I walked the first guy, I was a little mad," Aguilo said, "but I just wanted to focus and get the next guy. My teammates were telling me not to worry about it." The fastball and curveball were used to set hitters up, he said, and the splitter was his put-away pitch.
Kevin Santiago had three RBIs and Ricardo Tross (3-for-3) drove in the first run in a three-run second inning.
