A man was taken to the hospital for evaluation after holding off police in a hours-long standoff at his Elmont home on Saturday, Nassau police said.

The man, who was not identified, had refused to come out of his Crown Avenue home after a family member called the police on him about a domestic situation, police said.

Police responded to the home at about 2:15 p.m., and brought in a hostage negotiator as a precaution.

The man had weapons in his safe in the house, but it did not appear that he used them or had them on his person, police said.

The situation was resolved within a few hours, police said, and the man was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
