Elmont used one spurt to get back into the game and another to blow it open.
The Spartans closed out the third quarter on a 15-0 run to turn a seven-point deficit into an eight-point lead, then closed out the game on a 17-4 run to defeat Deer Park, 72-59, Sunday in Game 3 of the Nassau-Suffolk Challenge at the Hicksville Athletic Center.
Keith Tompkins scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a crucial three-pointer followed by a spinning layup in transition for Elmont (7-3). Chiazam Nwankwo led the Spartans with 19 points. Point guard Tristan Brown overcame a slow start to score 14 of his 15 in the second half.
Aaren Edmead led Deer Park (9-2) with 21 points and teammate Karon Blackwell added 19, 17 during a torrid first half.
