Energy drink legislation prompts job change
Lobbyist Christopher Hahn has told Suffolk Legis. William Spencer (D-Centerport) that he will no longer be the "point man" for the energy drink firm Red Bull. Spencer is preparing a bill to ban the sale of such drinks to those under 19.
Spencer said Hahn, husband of Legis. Kara Hahn (D-Setauket), told him of the change after the board of health voted this month to urge lawmakers to pass a ban. Earlier, Kara Hahn said she planned to recuse herself from voting on energy drink legislation because of her husband's role with Red Bull, which predated her election. An aide late Friday said she will continue to recuse herself, despite her husband's withdrawal.-- Rick Brand
