Environmental group to conduct bike trip

The North Fork Environmental Council is holding its fourth annual “Bike What’s Left,” a noncompetitive bicycle trip for both serious and casual bikers.

The ride on Saturday passes through some of the North Fork’s most beautiful scenery, such as along the bays, and for more advanced riders goes past Horton’s Lighthouse.

“The primary goal of this event is to not only raise awareness of some of the most gorgeous and endangered spots on the North Fork but to encourage people, especially families, to take learning out of the classroom and lecture hall and see, hear and smell the beauty of nature on the North Fork first hand,” according to a council news release.

Loop One will start at 10 a.m. and go 25 or more miles. Loop Two will start at 11 a.m., and run 10 miles. Free hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages will be given at the end of the rides. Both will begin at the Mattituck train station and end at the council’s offices on Main Road across from Love Lane in Mattituck.

Fees are $10 for council members, $15 for nonmembers and $5 for children 12 and younger. Reservations are required.

The rain date will be Sunday at the same times.
