Erin Neville's goal leads Commack girls

Erin Neville scored off a corner kick with 12 seconds left yesterday to lift No. 8 Commack to a 1-0 win over ninth-seeded Deer Park in a Suffolk Class AA girls soccer first-round game.

Samantha Miller earned the shutout with 15 saves, including back-to-back saves on consecutive shots with 15 minutes left in the match for Commack (10-5), which will play at No. 1 West Islip in a quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Ward Melville 3, Half Hollow Hills West 2: Dani Valente scored the winner with under four minutes remaining from 20 yards to lead No. 4 Ward Melville (11-3-1) over No. 13 Half Hollow Hills West in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Cortney Fortunato scored two goals in the win, while Jess Rom made three saves.Island Trees 2, Valley Stream North 1: Megan Fischer scored off an assist from Marianna Ferraro with 13:37 to give No. 5 Island Trees (4-8-1) the win over No. 12 Valley Stream North in the first round of the Nassau Class A playoffs.
