Event to highlight 'green' housing project

A bevy of federal, state and local officials and politicians are scheduled to appear in Port Washington on Tuesday to celebrate the recent green renovation of an affordable-housing complex there.

The event is centered around the Cow Bay Apartments, an 88-unit complex that was renovated with money from the Community Preservation Corporation and the New York State Common Retirement Fund.

Officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will join state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Nassau County Legis. Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn), North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman and others at the property at 2 Bay Green Lane.

The complex was built in 1971 with HUD money, and is made up of seven garden-apartment buildings.
