Ex-bodega owner convicted of using grocery as a drugstore
The former owner of a Kew Gardens bodega was convicted Tuesday of charges involving the possession and sale of drugs and for the illegal possession of firearms found at his Baldwin, L.I., home.
Jamie Corchado, 37, who was convicted after a 12-day jury trial, is scheduled for sentencing July 1 and faces up to 24 years in prison.
On Aug. 17, 2011, police found two bags each of cocaine and marijuana and a scale underneath a counter at Louis's Deli & Grocery at 85-56 118th St.
"The defendant used his mom-and-pop grocery store as a front to traffic in narcotics," said Queens DA Richard Brown.
