Former Northport star and current Florida Gator Shannon Gilroy ran outside on Tuesday for the first time since tearing her left ACL in the girls lacrosse Class A state championship game in June.

“Running went really well today. It felt really good to be running outside again,” said Gilroy, who had been running on a treadmill for the past two weeks.

Newsday’s 2010 Long Island Player of the Year was accompanied by a trainer as she ran three laps around a grass soccer field. She said she received physical therapy afterward and can run each day as long as she feels well.

“I can start running outside everyday now for a little longer as long as I feel okay and up to it,” Gilroy said.
