Exhibit offers lessons on Northport homes

Village of Northport residents are invited to a new exhibit to learn how to unravel their homes' history, apply for historic designation or see how village homes have changed over the years.

“If Our Houses Could Talk … about origins, restorations and more,” a program dedicated to tracing the history of village homes, is open through April 23 at the Northport Historical Society and Museum, 215 Main St., from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The exhibit shows how local homes have been restored, renovated or repurposed.

“It was conceived after Northport historic preservation legislation to help get homes designated as village historic sites,” said Kari-Ann Carr, assistant director and museum educator.

Carr said several thousand people have visited the exhibit since it opened last September. After the exhibit closes, museum-produced literature to help individuals learn about their home’s history will remain available.
