Golden era?

Temple is 3-0 for the first time since 1979, and Saturday's 30-16 victory over Connecticut was its first over a BCS conference team since it beat Syracuse in 2004.

"We're a Division I team now," said fifth-year coach Al Golden, whose team went 9-4 last year and played in a bowl game for the first time since going 10-2 in that 1979 season. "We lost a lot of close games as were growing up, and that was because of a lot of things. But also because we were tired. I don't know the final count [yesterday], but I bet you we played 56 people in the game."

He might get to play 56 again Saturday when the Owls venture to No. 22 Penn State.

Masoli update

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who transferred from Oregon under a cloud of disciplinary issues, and was immediately eligible at Ole Miss, ran for 104 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown, but the Rebels lost at home to Vanderbilt, 28-14. Masoli has thrown for one touchdown and been intercepted four times so far this season for the Rebels (1-2),
