Free fishing, rods and bait, as well as pony rides, a magic show and contests will be offered Saturday at the annual Fall Fishing and Children’s Festival at Hempstead Lake State Park.

The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities also include fly-fishing instruction, casting practice and fish-cleaning services. Trout Unlimited, DEC Environmental Education and New York State Parks, as well as other fishing and environmental organizations, will have displays.

Children’s activities include pumpkin decorating and face painting, along with the magic show and pony rides. A contest where participants can catch a pumpkin or “hook” a prize will be held by the Knights of Columbus of Seaford.

No fishing license is required for the event which is sponsored by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s I FISH NY Program and Freshwater Fisheries Unit, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, The Fisherman magazine and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Admission is $6 for anyone older than 12. There is an $8 vehicle fee which will be waived for those with a state parks Empire Passport.
