Fantasy: Here are your first-half AL All-Stars
With the All-Star Game approaching, here are the American League Fantasy All-Stars of the first half.
Catcher: Victor Martinez (Red Sox). Martinez is hitting .289 with 20 doubles, nine home runs, 39 RBIs, 36 runs and has an .824 OPS. Best value: John Buck (Blue Jays).
First base: Miguel Cabrera (Tigers). Cabrera is batting .336 with 20 home runs, 68 RBIs, 57 runs and a 1.041 OPS. Value: Paul Konerko (White Sox).
Second base: Robinson Cano (Yankees). An easy choice with him hitting .352 with 16 home runs, 54 RBIs, 57 runs and a .992 OPS. Value: Ty Wigginton (Orioles).
Shortstop: Derek Jeter (Yankees). Jeter is batting .287 with eight home runs, 39 RBIs, 51 runs and eight stolen bases. Value: Alex Gonzalez (Blue Jays).
Third base: Adrian Beltre (Red Sox). He gets the nod over Evan Longoria because of a much higher average and a better OPS. Beltre is batting .349 with 23 doubles, 12 home runs, 53 RBIs, 40 runs and a .944 OPS. Value: Jose Bautista (Blue Jays).
Outfield: Josh Hamilton (Rangers). An elite option when healthy. Hamilton has 18 home runs, 58 RBIs, 52 runs, six stolen bases and a .340 average.
Outfield: Alex Rios (White Sox). Finally, the breakout we have been waiting for. Rios has a .306 average, 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, 49 runs and 21 stolen bases.
Outfield: Carl Crawford (Rays). Crawford has 29 stolen bases, scored 59 runs, with seven home runs, 39 RBIs and a .317 average. Values: Vernon Wells (Blue Jays), Brett Gardner (Yankees), Magglio Ordoñez (Tigers), Brennan Boesch (Tigers).
Designated hitter: Vladimir Guerrero (Rangers). A lesson to not give up on veterans who were injured. He is hitting .335 with 18 home runs, 68 RBIs and 51 runs.
Starting pitcher: Cliff Lee (Mariners). Has a 78/5 K/BB ratio in 952/3 innings with a 2.44 ERA, 0.91 WHIP with a 7-3 record.
Starting pitcher: Jered Weaver (Angels): He is 8-3 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 124/26 K/BB ratio in 1082/3 innings.
Starting pitcher: Jon Lester (Red Sox): 9-3 with a 2.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 111/41 K/BB in 107 innings.
Starting pitcher: David Price (Rays): He's 11-3 with a 2.44 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 84/38 K/BB ratio in 992/3 innings. Values: Carl Pavano (Twins), Colby Lewis (Rangers), Jeff Niemann (Rays), Ricky Romero (Blue Jays), Trevor Cahill (Athletics).
