Fantasy: Play to win it all the way to end
It's the time of season when many fantasy baseball owners stop paying attention or get frustrated with injuries. Even if you're out of contention, play until the end and consider these pickups to bolster your team.
Jeremy Hellickson (Rays, SP): He's one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and if he was on any other team, he likely would have been called up much earlier. Hellickson should get at least two more starts with Jeff Niemann and Wade Davis out with injuries. Even though his innings could be limited, Hellickson can help. In 14 innings against the Twins and Tigers, he has allowed six hits with a 13/2 K/BB ratio.
Daniel Hudson (Diamondbacks, SP): He's been excellent in his three starts with Arizona: 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and a 17/4 K/BB ratio in 221/3 innings. Just beware he is a fly ball pitcher in Arizona.
Hong-Chih Kuo (Dodgers, RP): Jonathan Broxton has been removed from the closer's role for now and Kuo will get most of the save opportunities. In 40 innings, Kuo has allowed 20 hits and has a 49/13 K/BB ratio, 0.90 ERA and 0.83 WHIP.
Felix Pie (Orioles, OF): There's actually life in Baltimore. Pie is hitting .349 (15-for-43) with two home runs, nine RBIs, seven runs, two stolen bases and a .930 OPS this month.
Jeremy Guthrie (Orioles, SP): A record two Orioles in one column, thanks to Buck Showalter. Guthrie is 3-1 with a 1.77 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a 21/3 K/BB ratio in 352/3 innings in his last five starts. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six of his last eight starts.
Michael Wuertz (Athletics, RP): Andrew Bailey remains on the disabled list, so Wuertz might get a few more saves. He has four saves since July 21.
Ryan Raburn (Tigers, 2B/OF): He has displayed good power in the minors and hit 16 home runs in 261 at-bats last season. It hasn't been there this season with just four in 197 at-bats. Raburn is playing consistently and the second base eligibility is a plus. He has two home runs in 36 at-bats in August and could hit double-digit home runs the rest of the way.
Mike Lowell (Red Sox, 1B/3B): Hitting .310 (9-for-29) with two home runs, seven RBIs, two doubles and five runs since replacing Kevin Youkilis.
Pat Burrell (Giants, OF): After being inept for the Rays, he's batting .299 with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs, 10 doubles, 24 runs and a .946 OPS in 154 at-bats with the Giants. Burrell is hitting .389 with four homers and 12 RBIs in 36 at-bats this month.
Michael Brantley (Indians, OF): A stolen base option, he is 9-for-24 (.375) with a home run, three RBIs, seven runs and three stolen bases this month.
