The past week was a tough one for fantasy baseball owners with Ryan Howard, Carlos Peña, Kevin Youkilis, Carlos Santana and Martin Prado all going on the disabled list. I'm sure your eyes welled with tears when you got the news on these players, but there are some capable short-term replacements.

Chris Johnson (Astros, 3B): No, this isn't the fantasy football column. He's been one of the hottest hitters. Since the All-Star break Johnson is batting .429 (30-for-70) with 13 runs, five doubles, five home runs, 21 RBIs and a 1.204 OPS.

Jake Westbrook (Cardinals, SP): The move to the National League and tutelage of pitching coach Dave Duncan should help. Westbrook doesn't get a lot of strikeouts, but has good control and induces ground balls. In his Cards debut, he went six innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked one, struck out seven, and induced 14 grounders.

Omar Infante (Braves, 2B/SS/3B/OF): Infante will hit for average and score some runs while filling in for Prado. He is 17-for-41 since taking over at 2B and is batting .341 in 249 at-bats.

J.P. Arencibia (Blue Jays, C): Arencibia certainly has power. On the first pitch he saw in the majors Saturday, he homered off James Shields, and later hit another. He batted .303 with 31 home runs and 79 RBIs in 95 games at Triple-A.

Carlos Ruiz (Phillies, C): Ruiz has been sizzling since the All-Star break, batting .342 (25-for-73) with three home runs, 14 RBIs, eight runs, seven doubles and a .938 OPS.

Jeff Keppinger (Astros, 2B/SS/3B): He's coming off a terrific July where he hit .353 with four home runs, 11 RBIs, and a .974 OPS. Overall, he is at .290 with five home runs, and 40 RBIs and 46 runs.

Kila Ka'aihue (Royals, 1B): Ka'aihue, 26, will finally get a chance to play consistently, sharing first base and designated hitter with Billy Butler. Ka'aihue hit .319 with 24 home runs and 78 RBIs in 416 at-bats with a .463 on-base percentage at Triple-A Omaha.

Neil Walker (Pirates, 2B/3B): Walker is hitting .349 (29-for-89) with two home runs, 19 RBIs, 10 runs and seven doubles since the All-Star break. For the season, Walker is batting .302 with five home runs, 31 RBIs and 29 runs in 225 at-bats.

David Murphy (Rangers, OF): A good mono-league pickup who's been getting more playing time. He has eight hits in his last 28 at-bats with three home runs and eight RBIs.

Mike Minor (Braves, SP): Another mono-league pickup who'll replace the injured Kris Medlen and make his debut Monday night. He has a 3.44 ERA in 21 starts between Double- and Triple-A.

All statistics through Friday.
