Farmingdale recycling outdated equipment

Old cars, coin counters and computers. It’s all clutter, Farmingdale officials said.

The village is junking items that are too old or too worn to be used and will recycle much of the property as scrap metal, officials said.

“We’re doing a little spring cleaning early, folks,” Mayor George Starkie said at Tuesday’s village board meeting.

The board voted to declare as surplus two 2001 Dodge Stratus cruisers that were used by code enforcement officers but are no longer safe to drive, two broken coin-counting machines, four computers and several typewriters, fax machines, keyboards and mouses, printers and computer screens that had been piling up in the Village Hall basement.

“They’re just taking up room,” said trustee Cheryl Parisi of the office equipment.

Many of the items will go to Gershow Recycling to be made into scrap metal, officials said.
