Farmingdale sale is all about moms

Dozens of shoppers filled the community room Friday morning at Crossroads Church in Farmingdale where the Midshore Mothers’ Center is holding its 17th annual Secondhand Treasures Sale.
The sale is the not-for-profit's top fundraiser and runs Friday and Saturday. Clothes, toys, books, videos, pocketbooks and much more were under the arms of shoppers as they walked out of the church where the Midshore Mothers’ Center rents space.
The center is dedicated to providing resources and support to mothers who might otherwise have nowhere else to turn. It provides services in child care, stress and anxiety management, including Zumba and yoga classes.
“It's a place for everybody," said Karen Willig, outreach coordinator for the center and founder of the sale.
One year, proceeds provided a family with a fully furnished nursery after a fire claimed their home. The fundraiser also reaches out to local social workers so families who need help can shop for free.
“The value is good. They really put an effort into making everything salable," said Roberta Signoriello, of Bethpage. She has attended the sale for the past three years to find bargain items for her two grandchildren, and now a third is on the way. "It's nice to donate [and know] where the money is going to."
The Secondhand Treasures Sale will run today until 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Crossroads Church, 610 Carmans Rd., Farmingdale. The organization is still accepting donations. For more information call 516-694-6667 or visit www.midshoremotherscenter.org.
