THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $148,954,370 for the 2010-11 school year, a 3.27 percent increase over the current budget of $144,244,743. The local tax levy would rise from $107,428,584 to $109,539,297 - a 1.96 percent increase.

The district said it could not provide an estimate of the tax impact on an average home in the district because it will not receive equalization information until Suffolk County assessments are finalized in August.

The proposed budget will include contractual increases for teachers of 3.5 percent and a 2.5 percent step increase. Two teachers and two part-time support staff will be reduced due to attrition.

There will be one additional referendum on the budget to use money from the capital reserve to replace windows at Farmingdale High School. There would be no impact on the tax levy.
