Farmingdale stops night-differential pay

Farmingdale code enforcement officers will no longer receive extra pay for working night hours, village officials said this week.

The cut will save the village about $3,000 or $4,000 per year, Mayor George Starkie estimated Wednesday.

The six part-time members of the code enforcement team received an additional 10 percent on their hourly wage for hours worked after 5 p.m. under a night-differential provision, village officials said.

The officers receive an hourly wage and work the night shift on a rotating basis, typically until about 10 p.m., officials said.

Farmingdale village board members on Tuesday voted, 4-0, with one trustee absent, to eliminate the night differential.
