The FBI was last night probing whether a man tried to ignite his shoes on a United flight from Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport to Denver last night, officials said.

Marshals on board United flight 663, restrained the man and the flight landed in Denver at 9:21 p.m. Authorities said 157 passengers and six crew members were aboard the flight.

Transportation Security Administration Kristin Lee said the man was being interviewed by law enforcement in Denver.

According to ABC News, the man was identified by authorities as Mohammed al Modadi, a diplomat in the Qatar embassy in Washington. The FBI said the man had full diplomat immunity as the 3rd secretary and vice consul.

Two officials told The Associated Press the man is a Qatari diplomat who has been in the United States for years.
