expanding swingbellys

The much revered Swingbellys Beachside BBQ in Long Beach just launched a new Lynbrook branch devoted mainly to takeout, delivery and catering. There are, however, a couple of picnic tables for those who can't wait to tear into their pulled pork sandwich ($8.99) or St. Louis ribs ($14.99 half slab, $24.99 full slab).

While the Lynbrook menu is similar to that of the Long Beach original, pitmaster Dan Monteforte named some additions, among them hush puppies ($6.99) and an egg and meat sandwich ($8.99). Fried chicken, occasionally available in Long Beach, is offered daily here ($12.99 for a 5-piece platter).

The new Swingbellys BBQ is at 97 Broadway, Lynbrook, 516-341-7227.

Swingbellys Beachside BBQ is at 909 W. Beech St., Long Beach, 516-431-3464.

Italian seafood

It's been a week since Marino's on the Bay dropped anchor at the marina-side Port Washington spot that previously hosted Acqua, Waterview, DiMaggio's and Latitude. The 260-seat restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor tables.

Chef-owner Mario Coiro, who cooked at the Hamlet on Old Oyster Bay country club and, before that, at the now-closed Bruzells in Great Neck, characterized his menu as "Italian seafood." Some choices: polenta-dusted fried calamari ($11), linguine with clam sauce ($21) and shrimp scampi ($23).

Marino's on the Bay is at 45 Orchard Beach Blvd., Port Washington, 516-883-5600

farmers market in great neck

Today, in Village Green park, the first Great Neck farmers market is set to open for business with a "vine-cutting ceremony" to honor the village's trustees and park district commissioners, who helped bring the market . . . to market. And then, the market is off and running -- every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 1.

The market is organized by Ana Nieto and Ivo Tomasini, who also produce the Sag Harbor farmers market. Vendors will include Orient Organics Farm (produce), Goodale Farms (the Aquebogue dairy that is the only licensed producer of local milk on Long Island), Blue Duck Bakery (try the rye bread), DelPozzo Foods (Italian specialties), A Taste of the North Fork, Horman's Best Pickles, Dora's Gourmet (soups, dips, dressings), Life Is Gruff (dog treats) and Papa Pasquale (fresh pasta).

Village Green Park is on Middle Neck Road between Beach Road and Arrandale Avenue. Call 212-644-2604 for more information.
