Business owners and residents affected by Tropical Storm Irene have until Monday to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency if they plan to seek disaster assistance.

Registrations will not be accepted after Monday.

Philip E. Parr, FEMA’s federal coordinating officer, said people who are waiting for an insurance settlement should still register with the agency so they can be considered for assistance.

President Barack Obama signed a federal disaster declaration Aug. 31 for Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as others affected by the storm that caused flooding and cut off power to hundreds of thousands of people along the East Coast.

To register, call 800-621-3362 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. or visit disasterassistance.gov. Smartphone users can also apply at m.fema.gov.

When registering, FEMA will ask for your social security number, current and pre-disaster address, a contact number, insurance information, total household income, a description of your losses and a bank routing and account number if you want any aid wired directly.
