A federal disaster relief center is moving from Lindenhurst to Copiague.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency superstorm Sandy disaster relief center that was in Lindenhurst Memorial Library has closed and will reopen Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Copiague Memorial Public Library, at 50 Deauville Blvd., Copiague. The center’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

In addition, the FEMA recovery center located at 1001 Beach 20th St., Far Rockaway, has been closed.

Federal officials stated that traffic at the Lindenhurst and Far Rockaway locations had slowed in recent weeks, “indicating the information needs of survivors in those areas have mostly been met.” Individuals made more than 14,000 visits to the two centers, officials stated. Residents can also seek FEMA assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.

Sandy victims in New York have until Wednesday to register for federal disaster assistance, which can include money for rent, essential home repairs, personal property losses and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.
