Bailey Zappe is back.

The Jets signed him to the practice squad Tuesday, filling the one spot they had open. The Jets released Zappe on Sunday when they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.

Geno Smith is the starter and Cade Klubnik is his backup, but the Jets needed a third quarterback. It was expected that Brady Cook would be the Jets' practice-squad QB, but the Dolphins claimed him off waivers.

Zappe spent training camp and the preseason as the Jets’ No. 3 quarterback, but he didn’t perform well. He was intercepted on his first two preseason drives, including a pick-six against Tampa. Overall, he completed 14 of 23 passes for 135 yards.

Drafted in the fourth round by New England in 2022, Zappe has appeared in 15 games (nine starts) and thrown for 2,223 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
