Firefighters from East Northport and other districts were battling a brush fire on a landfill located next to the Huntington Resource Recovery facility, which is located at 99 Town Line Rd. in East Northport.

Traffic on Town Line Road is being diverted at Pulaski Road to the north and at Clay Pitts Road to the south.

The nearby plant is run by Convanta Energy, which is based in New Jersey.

According to its website, the facility in East Northport "processes 750 tons-per-day of solid waste, which generates up to 25 megawatts of renewable energy that is sold to Long Island Power Authority. The Covanta Huntington Resource Recovery Facility is the cornerstone of an integrated solid waste management system for these communities where landfilling is prohibited by state law."
