The popular summer hotspot of Fire Island is back and open for business, and it wants the world to know.

The island has been hard at work cleaning up the destruction wrought by Superstorm Sandy last year. The beaches have been replenished, the boardwalks have been rebuilt and the quaint shops have been repaired. But now that it's summer, business owners on the sun-soaked strip of barrier island are reporting lower-than-usual sales volumes, and they're worried about their bottom lines.

Today, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine and other town officials toured parts of the area in hopes of encouraging more people to visit. Still, some business owners say too little is being done to spread the word.

"I'm very jealous and envious that New Jersey has been very proactive and it's obvious, we see those commercials all the time," says Ken Stein, who runs the Sayville Ferry Service. Stein was referring to New Jersey's "Stronger than the Storm" campaign, which has been vociferously touting the state's recovery from Sandy.
