THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $3,398,317 for 2010-11, a 0.42 percent increase over the current $3,383,989.

The tax levy would increase 0.94 percent from the current $2,904,461 to $2,931,878.

The district could not provide figures for the dollar amount of school taxes paid on the average single-family home or on the assessed value of the average home.

The budget calls for increases in teachers' salaries of about 5 percent, including a yearly 3 percent contractual raise plus variable step increases.

There are three additional propositions on the ballot.

One would authorize an increase in the capital reserve fund to $2,000,000. A second would authorize a $350,000 withdrawal from the capital reserve fund for 13 projects such as roofing and boiler repairs. The third authorizes collection of $50,000 for use by the Fishers Island Library Association and a tax levy for that purpose.
