Fitzgerald's slam wins it for Carle Place
Michael Fitzgerald hit a two-out, walk-off grand slam as Carle Place erased a two-run deficit in the seventh and defeated Friends Academy, 6-4, Monday in Conference BC-II baseball. Stephen Laurino went 2-for-3 with three runs, including a third-inning solo home run for the Frogs (5-7). Senior Brett Klatsky tossed a complete game, allowing four runs with 13 strikeouts, the last of which came in the sixth inning for his 150th career varsity strikeout.
Hauppauge 6, Eastport-South Manor 5: Joe Policastro's two-out double scored Brian Valensisi with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth for Hauppauge (9-1) in League V. Mike Mazzeo hit a home run.
SOFTBALL
Kings Park 12, Glenn 0: Senior Lindsay Taylor threw a five-inning perfect game with 14 strikeouts, including the 1,000th of her career in the third inning, as Kings Park (11-1) defeated Glenn in a League V/VI crossover. It was Taylor's third perfect game this season and seventh in her career. She went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Paige Julich added two home runs.
GIRLS LACROSSELynbrook 9, Division 8: Carrie Feltkamp scored a free-position goal with 0.7 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 7 and Adrienne Germanakos picked up a ground ball and scored the go-ahead goal from 5 yards with 12.8 seconds left in the second OT for Lynbrook (8-2) in non-league. Nicole Pataky (two goals, two assists) tied it at 8 with 52 seconds left in the first OT. Christina Rea scored the last five goals in regulation for Division.
W. Hempstead 14, Great Neck South 13: Junior Erin Guerrero scored seven of her career-high 10 goals in the second half, including the go-ahead goal with 33 seconds left for West Hempstead (2-3) in Conference V.
BOYS TENNIS
Patchogue-Medford 6, Stony Brook 1: Scott Langenbach defeated Jai Kim, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles to clinch the League V title for Pat-Med (9-0) for the second straight year.
BOys track
Baldwin 91, Freeport 42: Ieshawn Johnson won the discus at 182-0 for Baldwin (11-1) in Conference I. It is the longest throw in the state this season.
